Prof. F.F. Bruce

De betrouwbaarheid van de geschriften van het Nieuwe Testament

Frederik Fyvie Bruce werd geboren in Elgin, Morayshire, Schotland op 12 oktober 1910 en is overleden op 11 september 1990.

Hij bezocht de Elgin Academy en de universiteiten van Aberdeen, Cambridge en Wenen. Hij was professor in de letteren aan de universiteiten van Aberdeen, Cambridge en Manchester en in 1957 verleende de universiteit van Aberdeen hem de academische graad van doctor in de godgeleerdheid. Hij was lid van de British Academy. In Aberdeen ontving hij de gouden medaille voor Grieks en Latijn. Van 1935 tot 1947 doceerde hij Grieks aan de universiteit van Edinburgh en daarnaa aan de universiteit van Leeds. In 1946 werd hij het eerste hoofd van het Nieuwe Departement van Bijbelse Geschiedenis en Literatuur van de universiteit van Manchester, waar hij de Ryland leerstoel voor Bijbelse Kritiek en Exegese kreeg.

Een leven lang op de uitkijk voor kerk en Israël

Willem ten Boom was de zoon van Casper ten Boom en Cornelia Luitingh. Samen met zijn zusters Betsie, Nollie en Corrie ten Boom groeide hij op in het bekende Haarlemse horlogemakersgezin van Ten Boom. De liefde voor het Joodse volk werd hem van kindsbeen bijgebracht. Zijn grootvader begon reeds in 1844 met gebedsdiensten voor het Joodse volk in zijn huis te Haarlem. WIllems grote liefde voor het Joodse volk bracht hem ertoe om zich actief op te stellen in het verzet tegen de jodenvervolging voor en tijdens de 2e Wereldoorlog.  Willem ten Boom schudt ons wakker: God gaat misschien een wonderlijke weg, maar heeft nog steeds een bijzondere band met zijn volk Israël.

Dit boekje is meer dan 110 jaar oud en is geschreven door Johan de Heer. Enige jaren was hij aangesloten bij de Adventisten. Dit boekje beschrijft zijn redenen om toe te treden en de  voornaamste leerstukken van de Adventisten. Ook de geschiedenis van het Adventisme is beschreven. In 1902 nam hij afscheid van de kring der adventisten en heeft hij deze persoonlijke verantwoording geschreven, maar heeft daarmee door zijn getuigenis ook aan velen een dienst bewezen.

Richard Hudson Pope was born in 1879. Led to Christ as a boy of fourteen, he worked in a London Office and then as warden of a settlement and boy's home. He started his fifty years of service with Scripture Union as a children's evangelist in 1906. He died in 1967 at the age of eighty-eight, and just after his biography had gone to the press.

How the truths of Genesis were found hidden in the Chinese Language

The Discovery of Genesis by C. H. Kang and Ethel R. Nelson explores the structure of ancient Chinese characters and proposes that many of them reflect ideas found in the opening chapters of the Bible. First published in 1979, this study examines whether early Chinese writing may preserve cultural memories that parallel the accounts of Creation, the Fall, the Flood, and the Tower of Babel.

Using a method of breaking down classical ideograms into their original pictographic elements, the authors analyze familiar characters and compare their meanings with themes from Genesis. For example, the character for "boat" combines elements representing a vessel, eight, and people, while other characters suggest imagery of a garden, trees, temptation, and loss. Kang and Nelson invite readers to consider whether these patterns are coincidental or part of a deeper historical connection.

Beyond linguistic analysis, the book also looks at early Chinese religious thought, including references to a supreme heavenly ruler, and explores how ancient cultures may have preserved shared traditions about human origins.
